The National Park “De Meinweg” extends directly beyond the German border. The area includes the Dutch municipalities of Roermond and Roerdalen and the German municipalities of Wassenberg, Wegberg and Niederkrüchten.
Discover the beautiful, varied landscape of the national park during the rides. Along the disused, nostalgic railway tracks (last regular train ride in 1994) you get a first impression of the environment, history and nature. The landscape of the national park is characterised by pine forests, heathland, small lakes and moors. On your rides through the national park you will certainly see some of the animals native here.

Itinerary

The Surroundings and the Riding Program:

The municipality of Roerdalen offers a network of over 150 km of marked riding and carriage trails. The routes lead through the most beautiful parts of the national park, which covers a total of 1,800 ha and extends another 5,000 ha on the German side. These wide, sandy riding trails are perfect for long gallops. On your exploratory rides, you’ll ride through the Melicker Heide, the Luesekamp, and to the Melicker Ven (a small lake), where, in good weather, you can even go swimming with the horses. Your ride will also take you past the nearby “Hindernisbaan,” a stretch approximately 155 meters long and 25 meters wide featuring about 10 natural obstacles constructed from heavy oak logs. These obstacles are popular with riders and carriage drivers, and during the annual fox hunts, they provide a favorite subject for photographers as about 40 riders and 40 hounds leap over the obstacles. During your rides, you’ll pass various landmarks, such as the Maharishi Building—a massive Indian structure situated in the middle of the forest, created by Guru Maharishi. Today, this building serves as an international center for natural healing. We aim to include visits to the Hotel St. Ludwig, the Jägerhof, and the Dahlheimer Mühle during your rides. Here you can take a break in idyllic surroundings and refuel for the rest of the ride. Once you're back at the farm, if the weather is nice, you can wind down the day on the terrace by the campfire or in the cozy café by the fireplace.

A weekend program and a 5-day program are offered:

Weekend (Friday through Sunday):

Friday: Arrival between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Dinner (not included), overnight stay.

Saturday: Breakfast, free time in the morning (optional activities such as carriage rides, hiking, biking, or a riding lesson are available). In the afternoon, you’ll go on a horseback ride lasting about 3 hours.

Sunday: Breakfast and a day-long ride (about 5 hours, including a break) through the national park. Departure.

Horseback Riding Weekend for Beginners: On both Saturday and Sunday, you’ll go on a 2-hour walk through the surrounding sandy forests.

Non-riders/excursion possibilities:
Discover the beautiful city of Roermond (approx. 10 km from the farm) with its small stores, harbor and outlet center. The typical Dutch cafés invite you to linger. In Arcen (approx. 45km away) you can relax in the thermal baths.
You can book a carriage or covered wagon ride at the farm or explore the national park on foot. Various hiking maps are available. Your host will be happy to give you tips for excursions. Or discover the national park on foot, where riders and cyclists can't go. There are various hiking maps that you can use.

Accomodation
The farm is located right in De Meinweg National Park. Surrounded by forests and nature, you’ll experience a truly unique setting here.

The heart of the farm is the café-restaurant, built in the style of an Austrian log cabin. It offers regional specialties and seasonal dishes (e.g., wild boar, venison). There are also various dishes available for vegetarians. A generous breakfast buffet in the restaurant is included.
The terrace, with a view of the horse pastures, is the ideal place to relax. Dogs are allowed on the farm and may be brought along when staying overnight in the log cabins.

The farm offers guest rooms and 4 small log cabins, each accommodating 4 people (2 bunk beds) or 6 people (double bed + single bed + loft). All log cabins are equipped with a shower and toilet; no Wi-Fi is available. Please contact us well in advance if you’d like to book one of the log cabins. Otherwise, you’ll be accommodated in the guest rooms of the bed & breakfast. A electric kettle is available in every guest room.

Saddle & Tack: English saddles and bridles.

Experience: For riding weekends there is also a beginner program, otherwise you have to be confident in all gaits and terrain, even in the light seat.

Horses: In total there is approx. 70 horses (approx. 40 school horses of different breeds). They are balanced, sure-friendly and loyal companions for the rides.
