The remote wilderness lodge and base for this trip is located at the north end of Chilko Lake, British Columbia, the gateway to Tsylos Park. This is the dividing point between the stunning Coast Mountain range and the Chilcotin Plateau, where the crystal clear Chilko River winds its way down to the coastal watersheds. The area offers excellent riding country and superb world famous fly fishing.

Itinerary

Riding in pristine nature brings our senses to life. It is the smell of a horse, of leather, the fresh scent of a pine or fir forest. It is the sound of galloping hooves, crackling leaves, snorting horses or a soft whinny. It is the sight of new countryside and spectacular, unexplored vistas. It's the feeling of having a strong animal under you, the sense of your own strength and ability, and although few words are spoken, the lines of communication between horse and rider are shared and understood. It is the freedom to simply ride for miles to ride!
The Chilko Explorer Ride is designed for advanced rider riders looking for an exciting riding adventure in stunning scenery while enjoying the comfort of a wilderness lodge at night. The daily rides from the Lodge offer a variety of riding experiences - to ride up Mount Tulin and enjoy some of the most magnificent views over Chilko Lake - and then explore the Chilcotin Plateau with its open grasslands, rolling hills, numerous small lakes, adjacent mountain peaks with unparalleled views and a few hundred miles of riding trails. You will love it!

After an exciting day in the great outdoors, you can play volleyball, relax in the hot tub on the veranda overlooking the Chilko Valley or simply sit in front of the large wood-burning fireplace and socialize with other riders. Exceptional meals and fine wines are served family style. One day a week you can take a raft trip on the Chilko River or a cruise on Chilko Lake.

In September and October, the weekly program will also be Grizzly bear safari & photo course offered in the fall landscape.
There is no purer symbol of the Canadian wilderness than the grizzly bear, and seeing them in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring experience. The guided grizzly bear safaris take advantage of the peak fall season, when the bears are drawn to the Chilko River to feast on the abundant salmon that fill its waters.
Every day can be completely different. Some days you only see a few bears, other days you see a lot. It just depends on what's going on in the bear world. In addition to the grizzly bears, there are many other photo opportunities such as black bears, foxes, waterfowl, ospreys, eagles, herons, falcons, salmon, the occasional moose and beautiful landscapes in the fall light. The panorama from lake, river, the mountains and fir forests is wonderful and exactly what you might imagine the Rocky Mountains to look like. Colorful deciduous trees and perhaps the first snow offer further highlights for the eye and the camera in autumn.

Breakfast time depends on the light conditions. So at the start of the season, you have breakfast at around 6:45 am and head to the boats at 7:15 am, which are just a minute's walk from Lodge . You then spend the next few hours spotting and photographing the bears. You usually return to Lodge around noon for a hot soup and sandwich and an afternoon break until you set off again for an afternoon safari around 3.00 pm.

If you wish, you can go horseback riding, in which case the photo excursion is canceled.

Once in a lifetime: A great combination is the 14-day stay: the first week full riding program, the second week grizzly tour!
