Mozambique is located on the Indian Ocean and is home to around 25 million inhabitants. Mozambique is not yet very well developed for tourism, so nature lovers will get their money's worth - get to know the real Africa and immerse yourself in the untouched world of Mozambique. Endless, almost deserted beaches await you, where you can gallop along and enjoy the view of the azure blue sea .

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and introductory ride (riding time approx. 2 hours)
You will be met at Vilankulo Airport. After a short transfer (approx. 15 minutes), you will be taken to your lodge. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to get to know the horses and guides. You can try out your horse straight away on a short ride around the arena. Once all guests are comfortable on their horses, you will head towards the beach. You will go on a quiet, relaxed ride. Look forward to beautiful, secluded sandy beaches, incredible rock formations and untouched bushland. You will ride past mangrove shores and enjoy magnificent views of the sea and beaches. In the evening, a freshly prepared seafood dinner will be served under the stars with a direct view of the sea.

Day 2: Ride to the big lake and canoe trip (riding time approx. 3 hours)
Today you will ride into the hinterland on narrow paths through small African villages and past natural freshwater lakes. The bird life here will delight you – with a little luck you will see eagles, pelicans, herons, harriers and kingfishers. You will gallop along bush trails through African farmland, past rural schools and ruins of former Portuguese houses. The older farm tracks are ideal for a gallop or two as you ride towards the Govuro River. Afterwards, you will stop for a picnic lunch with refreshing drinks on the grassy riverbank. The horses will be watered and fed and allowed to rest for a while. Meanwhile, you will take a canoe trip on the river, looking out for native fish and listening to the calls of the fantastic wildlife. In the evening, enjoy a drink or two and admire the stars in the African sky while you relax around the campfire. For dinner, a delicious Mozambican barbecue awaits you, where you can round off the day.

Day 3: Breakfast ride through the bush and visit to the market (riding time approx. 1.5 hours)
You will set off early in the morning to make the most of the day. You will ride towards the beach, past a village to a bay that is home to many ships and boats. Your ride will take you along the bay and there will be plenty of opportunities for a brisk gallop along the beach. You can watch the local fishermen at work. The ride ends with a delicious buffet breakfast at Casa Rex, an exclusive resort. After breakfast, you will meet your local guide, who will take you to the bustling town. You will see the market with its colourful displays and get an impression of the life of the locals. Afterwards, you will walk back to the resort to rest a little. You can take a siesta or relax by the pool. Alternatively, you can go diving, kitesurfing or deep-sea fishing (at an additional cost). You will spend the afternoon relaxing and sitting together over dinner to share your experiences.

Day 4: Benguerra Island ride (riding time approx. 3 hours - depending on the tides)
You start your day early again – you will be taken from the town by motorised boat through the Bazaruto National Park to Benguerra Island. On the way, you will have time for a tasty breakfast, which will be prepared and packed for you. Enjoy the view of the sea and keep an eye out for dolphins, turtles and rays. The island consists of massive sand dunes, freshwater lakes and white sandy beaches, which offer incredible views from horseback. You will see different species of birds and it is not uncommon to see flocks of flamingos. After your ride, a delicious seafood lunch prepared fresh by your boat captain awaits you. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to go snorkelling – equipment is provided. Take the chance to discover the colourful abundance of fish in this area. Those who do not wish to go into the water can relax or take a leisurely stroll along the beach. You will return to Vilankulo at sunset and enjoy your dinner in a beautiful restaurant.

Day 5: Ride to the fishing village (riding time approx. 2 hours & 1.5 hours city tour)
You will start your day in a relaxed manner with a leisurely breakfast. If you wish, you can go for a swim before the ride starts at around 11:30 a.m. Today's ride will take you through coconut plantations along the beach to Enrique's fishing village. The local chef will introduce you to Mozambican culture and prepare a table with traditional food. You will start with a refreshing coconut drink. Your host will also show you how to eat crab properly. You will have the opportunity to try matapa, a typical Mozambican dish made from cassava leaves, nuts and coconut milk. After lunch, you will continue on horseback through the village until you reach the Fingerprint of God – an impressive viewpoint! In the evening, you will return to the city and enjoy dinner in one of the beautiful restaurants. A wonderful day with beautiful riding trails and an insight into Mozambican culture and tradition comes to an end.

Day 6: Beach and bush ride (riding time approx. 3-4 hours)
You start the day with a hearty breakfast – today's ride is very popular with many guests. The route takes you along the old coastal road, which runs parallel to the beach and then merges into a small river estuary. During your ride, you will pass through small villages where the children will wave enthusiastically at you and your horses – they don't get to see horses very often. There is plenty of time and space for long, fast gallops. After some time in the saddle, you will ride along a small path through forests to the beach with a magnificent view of the bay. You will be thrilled by the long, deserted sandy beaches – take advantage of the great photo opportunities! After your ride, enjoy a leisurely sundowner and a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7: Ride through the red dunes (riding time approx. 3-4 hours)
After a delicious breakfast, you will be driven to the stables and start your ride from there. Today, you will ride through the outskirts of the city, along deserted beaches to the red dunes on the north beach. There will be plenty of opportunities to gallop on the wide beaches before climbing the gigantic red coastal dunes. The beautiful view of the white sandbanks and the turquoise sea below you is spectacular and one of the highlights of this trip.
You will then have lunch in a restaurant with a magnificent view of the beach. Here you can try more seafood specialities. After lunch, you will make a short stop at a local craft shop. You will have time to explore and buy a few souvenirs for friends and family. In the afternoon, you can relax by the pool or take a nice walk on the beach. Dinner will be served later in the evening so that you can enjoy your last night to the fullest and reminisce about the wonderful experiences you have had.

Day 8: Farewell ride and swimming
Enjoy your last breakfast before taking a short farewell ride on horseback to the coast. The view of the bay and the long, unspoilt beaches will remain in your memory for a long time to come. You end the week with another highlight: swimming with the horses. This experience is something very special! Riders are always fascinated by the power and movement with which these four-legged creatures swim through the water. You should definitely capture this special moment as a memory! If swimming with the horses cannot take place today due to the tides, it will be organised a day earlier if possible.
After a final lunch, you will say goodbye and make your way home. The route and daily schedule are subject to change at any time due to the tides or other reasons.
