Winston Churchill once called Uganda the Pearl of Africa, and even today Uganda is still considered an insider tip among Africa lovers, as it impresses with its unspoilt nature and authenticity. Uganda offers varied and diverse landscapes. In Uganda, the savannah landscapes of East Africa meet the rainforests of Central Africa, creating an incomparable wealth of flora and fauna. It is also a true paradise for passionate birdwatchers – Uganda is home to over 1,000 species of birds!
At this lodge, you can combine horse riding with other activities and observe wildlife in the national park. Enjoy the magnificent view from your comfortable tent and let yourself be pampered by delicious food and warm hospitality.

Location:
The lodge is located near Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda and covers an area of approximately 260 km². It is one of the smaller national parks in Uganda, but is much less touristy and quieter than other national parks in Uganda. Lake Mburo is located in the centre of the park and, together with 14 other lakes in the surrounding area, forms part of a large wetland. Lake Mburo National Park is a very special place, as it is home to a wide variety of wildlife and birds that are rarely found elsewhere in Uganda. The park has a wide variety of landscapes, including savannahs, forests, lakes and swamps, as well as slopes, rocks and bushy terrain, providing a huge variety of habitats for animals and plants.

Wildlife:
The park is home to zebras, eland antelopes, impalas, waterbucks, topi, buffalos, hippos, duikers, bushbucks, klipspringers, oribis, reedbucks, sitatungas, leopards, hyenas, crocodiles and a wide variety of bird species.

Itinerary

Since the end of 2008, the lodge has been offering horseback safaris in and around the reserve. The riding groups are divided according to riding ability. Inexperienced or unsure riders go on walking tours. At a leisurely pace, you can spot lots of wild animals and ride quite close to them. For advanced and experienced riders, brisk rides with longer trotting and galloping stretches are offered. You have the opportunity to ride inside and outside the national park, and the abundance of animals is impressive. Depending on the season and rainfall, you will encounter giraffes, eland antelopes, buffalo and zebras time and time again.

The lodge offers several riding packages:

6 hours divided into rides of 1-3 hours. Beginners can also book this package, with rides of 30-60 minutes available for them.
12 hours for intermediate to advanced riders: divided into rides of 2-4 hours.
16 hours with an additional 4-hour ride.
20 hours bookable for stays of 5 nights or more, divided into 3x2 hours, 2x3 hours and 2x4 hours OR 2x 2 hours and 4x4 hours.

Please note: There are fees for entry to the national park (40 USD per person per day). All rides are possible on the game-rich terrain around the lodge or in the national park; rides lasting 3 hours or more always take place in the national park. For an additional charge, breakfast can also be organised for 4-hour rides.Other activities and excursions:
Hardly any other lodge in Uganda offers you so many options for spending your free time. You can drive to Lake Mburo National Park in your own hire car or on a classic jeep safari and go on a wildlife search. In the late evening, you can also go on a night drive and look for nocturnal animals in the reserve – a highlight is the sighting of leopards, of which there are several in the reserve and which, with a little luck, can be recognised by their bright eyes! Bush walks and mountain bike tours are also available. Those who would like to visit Lake Mburo are also very welcome here – boat trips are organised from the lodge. There is something for everyone here!

Accomodation
The lodge is located approximately 4 hours from the capital Kampala and is one of the more luxurious accommodations near Lake Mburo National Park. It is ideal for a stopover of several nights for relaxation and wildlife viewing and is located on the way from Bwindi National Park (gorilla tracking) back to Kampala. The lodge has a total of 12 rooms built on wooden platforms - standing on stilts and covered with a thatched roof. You will stay in comfortable and spacious tents - including a bathroom with hot water, shower and magnificent views. Impalas, buffalos and other wild animals often visit the waterhole in front of the lodge, where you can watch them drinking, playing and grazing. Each of the luxury tents is located on a small, private plot within the lodge, so you can enjoy a peaceful environment, privacy and tranquillity. Some of the tents are located in a wooded area, some with views of the lake, while others are situated on rocky outcrops with magnificent views of the national park.
Lunch and dinner are served at the lodge in the large, thatched dining area. Everything is comfortably furnished and the staff are friendly and attentive. The dining area and pool are located on a rocky outcrop and the terrace offers a good view of a waterhole where animals come to drink. Swimming in the pool while enjoying the magnificent view is truly an experience! Don't miss the breathtaking sunsets!

The lodge is very mindful of its ecological footprint – it is built from local materials such as weathered wood, olive trees and native grasses. Electricity is provided by photovoltaics. The lodge itself has a water collection station for rainwater, which is converted into drinking water.

Saddle & Tack: English

Experience: You should be at least an advanced beginner and already have some riding experience. The riders are divided into different groups depending on the riding skills. Also ideal for families with children! Maximum rider weight 100 kg (for experienced riders), 80-90 kg for less experienced riders.

Horses: Approx. 13 horses, thoroughred, warmblood and ponies. They stay overnight in the stables, but have free access to paddocks throughout the day.
