Discover the untamed, untouched wilderness of Africa on the Wild Coast in South Africa! The varied riding terrain invites you to exciting and sporty rides along breathtaking, rocky cliffs, through gentle, wooded hills in the picturesque hinterland and over wide, golden sandy beaches!
The coastal trail takes you from Kei Mouth to the southern region of the Wild Coast, with pretty, typical hotels and guesthouses along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: You land in East London at around 11:30 a.m. (transfer at 11:45/12:00 p.m.). The drive to Kei Mouth and the farm takes about an hour. After a tour briefing, you spend the afternoon exploring the 400-hectare farm on horseback, with its rich bird life and small wildlife. At a brisk pace, you will reach the guest house, where you can relax and spend the evening.

Day 2: You will be awakened by the aroma of a freshly prepared breakfast before heading out to the horses. You will cross the Great Kei River by ferry – with the horses. Don't worry, they are used to adventure! The crossing is well worth it – riders and horses alike are rewarded with fantastic, wide beaches that you can explore at a gallop. Your guides will lead you to a hidden waterfall where you can refresh yourself and then enjoy your picnic lunch. You will reach Trennerys Hotel or Seagulls Hotel at a brisk pace, while enjoying the beautiful colours of the sunset on your way. You can relax here on the beach or by the pool with a beer. Since its construction in the 1940s, the hotel has remained completely unchanged, giving you an authentic impression of what holidays were like back then. You can end the evening in a relaxed manner. Those who still have energy and feel like it can hit the dance floor after a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Today's ride depends on the tides, as you have to cross several rivers. The route continues up the coast. Today's ride (approx. 40 km) takes you further along the coast. You will explore the interior of the country and ride over hills and through valleys. You start at your hotel and your route takes you along gentle hills and sandy beaches. On your way, you will ride through small villages and coastal resorts. You will cross a number of rivers until you reach the beach again. There you will have time to relax with a picnic lunch on the beach. Depending on the tide, you will then ride along the seemingly endless beach – you will be rewarded with spectacular views! During the season, there are also good opportunities for whale and dolphin watching here! The soft ground invites you to gallop at a brisk pace. In the evening, you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and spend the night at the traditional Mazeppa Bay beach hotel.

Day 4: Today's ride takes you through beautiful river gorges and over difficult terrain. Once you have ridden through the stony riverbed, you continue towards the sea through valleys and rivers. In the afternoon, you will reach your next destination, Kob Inn, another insider tip on the Wild Coast, where you will be welcomed with warm hospitality. From the pub on the cliffs, you can enjoy the view of the wild sea and the picturesque private beaches in sheltered bays, naturally with a sundowner in your hand – pure Africa feeling!

Day 5: After a restful afternoon yesterday, today you will set off on a day ride through the beautiful countryside. The ride will take you to hidden beaches, secluded bays and beautiful lagoons. The flat, firm ground allows for brisk riding and you are sure to enjoy the fast gallops on excellently trained horses in this setting! On the way, you will choose the most beautiful bay for a picnic lunch and possibly a quick swim before riding back. Here, a seafood meal will be waiting for you.

Day 6: Today you will start your return journey. You will ride back down the coast to Wavecrest. Depending on the tides, the sporty 30 km ride will take you through rivers, over hills and along wide sandy beaches. In the evening, you may wish to relax at the Wavecrest SPA and enjoy a massage, or take a boat trip or canoe tour to the impressive mangrove swamps. If you feel like it, you can also play a round of tennis. With a little luck, you may even see whales and dolphins. Back at the Wavecrest Hotel, you can take a short canoe trip or enjoy a stroll along the beach. In the evening, you will be treated to a delicious dinner by the hotel team.

Day 7: You leave Wavecrest and continue on horseback along the Wild Coast, through picturesque fishing villages, dune forests and over rolling hills. Long trots and gallops will keep the adrenaline flowing today! Enjoy the wide white beaches of the Indian Ocean once again for extended gallops! There will be a picnic along the way to recharge your batteries and, depending on the weather, you will also have the opportunity to swim in the sea or in one of the rivers along the way. The ride ends at the farm where you will spend the night. During dinner together, you can look back on all the riding adventures of the week.

Day 8: Today your coastal trail ends with the option of an early morning ride up to the top of the cliffs at Morgan Bay – what a magnificent view to say goodbye! Before departure, you will be treated to a heavenly brunch. At around 1 p.m., a shuttle will take you to East London Airport.

Subject to change, itinerary depends on weather and tides.
