Varied, fast-paced horseback safaris on noble Arabian horses in Namibia, combined with the comforts of permanent accommodation and exciting wildlife viewing await you on this charming private farm.
Teufelsbach is located between Windhoek and Okahandja and consists of 8,000 hectares (with riverbeds, mountains and some soft sand tracks).
The farm is home to wild animals such as giraffes, springboks, kudus, oryx antelopes, waterbucks, striped wildebeests, black antelopes, zebras, duikers, ibexes, brown hyenas and leopards. Accommodation is provided in two guest houses and two cottages. The stables are simple but functional. Riding will focus on the landscape, picnics and sundowners.

Itinerary

Since you will be riding purebred Arabians and Arabian mixes that are also trained for endurance racing, the safari rides are sporty and move at a brisk pace. You will ride for approximately 4-5 hours per day with plenty of breaks for rest.

Example of an 8-day riding safari:

Day 1: You will be met at the airport in Windhoek. If you arrive Windhoek by 12 noon at the latest, you will get to know the enchanting Arabian horses and go on a short afternoon ride. This short ride takes you at a trot and canter to the riverbed of the Ojihavera River, where you can enjoy the beautiful landscape. Very often you will see impressive kudus and elegant oryx antelopes in this area.

Day 2: You will ride until lunchtime. The first 20 minutes will be rocky and only a walk. Once you have left this area behind, soft, sandy terrain awaits you. Encounters with ibex, kuikern, oryx antelopes, springbok, long trotting and galloping stretches are possible here. The afternoon is yours to enjoy a siesta or take a walk on one of the hiking trails. A sundowner ride is planned for the late afternoon.

Day 3: At daybreak, saddle up and ride to a beautiful campsite where breakfast will be served. After breakfast, the horses will be saddled again to take you back to the stables. The afternoon ride takes you to Osona on the other side of the farm. The pace will be varied, as winding through this part of the riverbed is not always easy.

Day 4: You will leave the stables a little later today. After a few hours of riding through a riverbed and the surrounding bushland, you will meet the horse grooms who will take care of the horses while you enjoy cool drinks and a light picnic at the beautiful campsite. Time to shower and relax until drinks and dinner are served.

Day 5: Today you will ride through and over some mountains in search of zebras, kudus and oryx antelopes until lunchtime. You will make slow progress as the terrain is challenging for the horses.
In the afternoon, a visit to the woodcarving market in Okahandja is planned. Here you can buy souvenirs (cash only). Please note that you will need to haggle or bargain. And if you are a lover of biltong and/or droë wors (dry sausage), we will take you to one of the best butchers in the country.

Day 6: A morning ride until lunchtime will take you to the other end of the farm, where you will ride along
some mountain routes, past a reservoir with many birds such as geese, ducks, plovers and wading birds. On the way back to the stables, you will pass through an area called Zandveld (sand field), where the soft sandy soil invites you to trot and gallop in zigzags through the bush. Hopefully, we will find zebras, wildebeests and black antelopes in this area. A game drive is planned for the afternoon.

Day 7: The morning takes you south into the Otjihavera riverbed with eucalyptus trees providing plenty of shade for a short break. Kuhantilops, kudus and giraffes can be found in this area.
In the afternoon, you will saddle up again for a short ride through the riverbed. The horse grooms will be waiting for you on this route. The horses will be tied up so that you can enjoy chilled drinks and snacks and
watch the sunset. You will continue your ride back to the stables, marvelling at the
starry sky and listening to jackals howling in the background.

Day 8: If your departure from Teufelsbach is after 12 noon, there is the option of a short ride in the morning. Time will tell what you will experience on your last ride. It is time to say goodbye to the horses and the rest of the crew.
