Reiseverlauf

Almost unknown among northern Europeans and yet one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula, the region in north-western Spain presents itself as the preferred holiday region of the locals (e.g. King Juan Carlos). The evergreen landscape with rivers and mountains, lakes and lonely forests is blessed with rich nature and a lot of sunshine - our horseback riding tours in Galicia let you experience the landscape from the horse in the best possible way. Furthermore, the nearby sea invites you to take a bath.
You ride through the rural and green coastal area of northern Portugal and Galicia. Numerous medieval buildings, Roman bridge constructions and a fascinating baroque architecture await you on the way during your riding holidays in Galicia. The highlight is of course the visit to Santiago at the end of your riding holiday on the Way of St. James.
Horseback riding on the Way of St. James: We offer you different routes with different durations, so you can choose between the French, Portuguese and Northern Way of St. James and the Sea Route, which takes between 5 and 30 days, depending on your wishes.

The French Way of St. James: The French Way is the Way of St. James with the greatest historical heritage and also the most famous internationally. Its route through the north of the Iberian Peninsula was established around 1135 in the Codex Calixtinus, an important book of the cultural heritage of the Way of St. James. When this book was written, the pilgrimages reached their peak and the French Way reached its greatest influx - apart from the present day. Santiago de Compostela became and still is a destination for pilgrims from the whole Christian world.

The Portuguese Way of St. James: This is the Way of St. James that begins in Portugal and is said to have existed as far back as the Middle Ages. Bridges, country chapels, sanctuaries, stone crosses, ancestral homes and historic towns are found along a route that begins in Porto (or Lisbon on request) and ends in front of the tomb of St. James.
Versions: 6 days from Tui, 7 days from Ponte de Lima, 8 days from Barcelos, 10 days from Porto, 12 days from Viana do Castelo pola costa

The Northern Way of St. James: The origin of the pilgrimage through the Asturian-Galician coast to Santiago dates back to the time after the discovery of the tomb of Santiago el Mayor (around the year 820). Ribadeo is considered the starting point of the Northern Route.
Versions: 7 days from Abadín, 8 days from Mondoñedo, 9 days from Ribadeo, 9 days from Vegadeo, 10 days from Luarca

The Sea Route: The Sea Route is the Pilgrim´s Way to Santiago for connoisseurs. It is a particularly charming route with spectacular views of the sea. The Sea Route offers excellent accommodation with all comforts, delicious food, fine wines and varied landscapes. Depending on the chosen length of the sea route, you can also stay in a thalassotherapy hotel on a small beautiful island. As this Way of St. James is still relatively young, not many pilgrims follow it.
Versions: 6 days from Pontevedra por la costa, 7 days from Castillo de Soutomaior, 9 days from Baiona, 10 days from A´Guardia

Other possibilities on request:
The Way of Saint James in a carriage:
An original possibility: You can also do the French Way from Portomarín in three days in a carriage.

The English Way of St. James: This pilgrimage was very famous in medieval Europe. Scandinavians, Flemings, English, Scots and Irish often used the sea routes to get to Ribadeo, Viveiro, Ferrol or A Coruña and from there to Santiago de Compostela. The latter two coastal towns are the two possible starting points of the English Way. Dates and prices on request.

The Original Pilgrim´s Way: This was the pilgrimage route followed by the first pilgrims who came from the Kingdom of Asturias. The main starting point of the Original Way was the city of Oviedo. Dates and prices on request.

The Silver Way: This is the longest Way of St. James. This route passes through Ourense, Pontevedra and A Coruña, passing through original and beautiful places with a rich cultural and environmental heritage. Dates and prices on request.

Santiago - Finisterre: From Santiago de Compostela, you can continue the extension of the Pilgrim´s Way of St. James to Finisterre by riding to the sea.
