Beschreibung & Reiseverlauf

A fantastic tour for experienced riders who want to enjoy the diversity of the Andalusian landscape in one week and still have some time for a stroll through the villages or a side trip to the beach. In 5 riding days you experience the wide sandy beaches of the Atlantic, the shady pine forests with the soft sandy soils, flowering sunflower, cotton or grain fields, endless pastures of the well-known black bulls and the untouched rugged mountain landscapes. The day without riding takes you into the world of the high education of Andalusian horses, the Royal Riding School, and gives you the opportunity for sherry rehearsals and shopping tours.

Reiseverlauf

Day 1: Arrival in Málaga. Transfer to Rancho La Paz, dinner together and discussion of the tour.

Day 2: After breakfast drive to Zahara de los Atunes to the Atlantic Ocean. Here you start for the first beach ride towards Barbate. The wide, firm sandy beach allows the riders to get used to the horses in both gaits (only step and gallop is ridden). Behind Barbate there is a pine forest where a picnic in the shade awaits you. After a siesta ride along sandy paths and through pine forests above the steep coast of Cap Trafalgar. The horses stay in Caños de Meca, the riders ride back to Zahara in a hotel right on the beach.

Day 3: On sandy paths the ride leads back to the beach, which the horses look forward to as much as you do. Only at the end of this morning you come again into more animated coastal areas - welcome stop at a beach bar. Around noon you turn inland at Conil. Between the pine forests of the coast and the interior, before you reach the huge pastures, lies a narrow strip of fertile land with sugar beet, cotton and beans. On the way, a picnic from the escort vehicle with cool drinks awaits you again. Continue over the first pastures of Andalusia. The horses stay in the small farming village of Los Naveros, the riders drive to Zahara to spend the night.

Day 4: From Los Naveros you ride to Paterna, partly on old cattle drive ways, the Vereas, which still cross Spain, partly over the pastures of the fighting bulls and cows. You stop for lunch in a small Venta below Medina Sidonia, where you will be spoiled with Spanish specialities. In Andalusia, large land ownership means that you ride for miles to the next pasture fence. Enjoy the wide view over the open landscape. At a suitable distance you ride around the herds of bulls and cows. The horses stay in Paterna. The riders drive to Alcala de los Gazules. Alcala is still one of the villages that has changed little over the past decades. Life takes place in the Plaza in the middle of the village after dinner, which is always taken late. Surrounded by half a dozen pubs, at a safe distance from the church, every inhabitant of the village comes across this square at least once a day. Far away from mass tourism, as for example in Arcos or Ronda, Alcala has remained one of the few typical South-Andalusian villages. By the way, there is also a saddler in the village: an evening stroll there is worthwhile!

Day 5: If you have gotten to know the Andalusian horses while working in the field, today you have the possibility to see them in the high school. After breakfast you will drive to Jerez de la Frontera, world famous for its bodegas - and heart of the Spanish horses. Besides the biggest Feria of the horse, here is the stallion depot of the Spanish military and of course the Royal Spanish Riding School (Real Escuela del Arte Ecuestre). You can take a look behind the scenes - the work with the young horses, the fine-tuning of the show horses, the training of the riders, tension and of course a look into the historic stables. After the morning work of the Court Riding School, you have the opportunity to explore Jerez on your own - visit a bodega nearby, go shopping in a typical equestrian shop or stroll through the old town. Lunch is not included and we recommend one of the many small tapas bars. In the afternoon we return to Alcala for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Paterna is also a pretty typical Andalusian village, embedded in a hilly landscape, it lives from cattle breeding and agriculture. But the real passion lies in breeding and hunting with the Galgos. Almost every weekend the Spanish greyhounds, which one finds everywhere in the area, are taken together with the Vaqueropferden, on the wide fields, in order to train them for the hare hunt. They ride around the village and pass many small fincas in the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Santos. In the small pilgrimage church, the patron saints of Alcala are honoured with big festivities in which the whole village takes part, partly on foot and partly on horseback. The reference that the Andalusians have to their patron saints is reflected in the hundreds of small plaques that adorn the church. After lunch you ride around Alcala de los Gazules to leave the horses in Patrite. Dinner and overnight stay as the day before.

Day 7: Today you ride through the Parque Alconorcales, one of the largest nature reserves in Andalusia. As a private property of old Andalusian nobility, which is under conservation, access is possible with a special permit. Between cork oaks, rocky landscapes, lush valleys and abandoned ruins the path winds through an untouched landscape. Surely you will have the opportunity to observe wildlife. In addition to fallow deer and red deer, many rare species of birds of prey live here and not infrequently the giant vultures that have their nests in the rocks circle above your head. After a picnic you ride through the Finca La Jota, the Duquesas large estate, to the reservoir. From here you drive back to La Paz, where you spend the last night.

Day 8: After breakfast transfer to Málaga and start of the journey home. (subject to change)

Andalusier
