Reiseverlauf

Day 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to the accommodation. The country house is located in the heart of nature. Also the beach and cities like Figueras, Girona and Barcelona are not far away. Before dinner, over a glass of local country wine, you will discuss the weekly program with your guide and learn more about the characteristics of the purebred Andalusian and Arabian horses. Afterwards you will have a delicious dinner together.

Day 2: After breakfast you will prepare the horses with the help of your guide and start your 200 km long riding tour. On the way you will pass idyllic villages with old stone arches and metal doors, churches and castles. Over field and forest paths and after a lunch break with picnic, you will reach the Mediterranean coast and the Gulf of Rosas in the afternoon. Your hotel is located directly on the beach.

Day 3: You get up early and saddle the horses. As a highlight the beach is waiting for you! In the wet sand you can let the horses run properly. A pleasure for riders and horses alike! At the end of the beach you ride back inland, upstream. Through a bird sanctuary, orchards and rice fields you arrive at Casellò de Empuries, your destination for today. A delicious picnic awaits you. The afternoon is at your leisure. There will be time for a swim in the hotel´s own pool, a visit to the Dali Museum in Figueras or just a drink and a few tapas on one of the cosy terraces of the village.

Day 4: Today is a long day of about 40 km. After a rich breakfast on the roof terrace with a view of the mountains you prepare the horses. They turn their backs on the sea and approach the mountains at a brisker pace. Through Mediterranean forests, which exude a wonderful scent, you arrive at your picnic spot. In the afternoon the landscape changes to cork oak and pine forests and olive groves. Your hotel is located at the other end of the Boadella reservoir. This former power station has been tastefully transformed into a small hotel. A haven of peace and quiet and the spa area await you. After three days on horseback this is a well-deserved rest.

Day 5: After saddling up, today the trail takes you to the most secluded area of the high Garrotxa. Over the mountains forested with spruce and oak trees you will reach Sant Llorenc de la Muga at noon. After a picnic by the river, the path climbs even higher. Here it gets a bit rockier and you also descend from time to time to lead the horses a little bit. In the evening you will reach Sant Marti de Seserres, a lonely place, known for its church and the 12th century rectory. The horses stay here overnight and you will drive to your hotel in Espinavessa, a charming 17th century farmhouse converted for tourism.

Day 6: You pick up the horses and set off for Besalu. In the morning it is still a bit mountainous. Lunch will be spent in medieval Besalu with its spectacular bridge. A jewel of Romanesque architecture, between two rivers, with its stone columns and arches, small squares and narrow streets. It is worth a visit! In the afternoon, you will continue at a brisk pace until you arrive in La Palma, where you have stayed the day before. Here you will have the opportunity to have a massage or relax with a cool drink at the pool. For dinner there are traditional dishes. Bon appetite!

Day 7: In the morning the horses will take you over the wooded mountains to the villages of Ollers and Galliners where you can see beautiful examples of Catalan architecture. Picnic between rosemary and thyme meadows. Then you set off on the last leg of your journey. In trot and gallop you will reach the village of Bascara. Now it is not far and at a quiet pace, passing through the village of Calabuig with its 15th century castle church, you will arrive back at the horse farm. After you have taken care of the horses, you can relax in the garden or by the pool, before finishing the week with a last dinner together.

Day 8: Breakfast and transfer to the airport. (subject to change)

New Year´s ride: Slightly changed tour itinerary so that the group of riders can spend New Year´s Eve at the beautiful Can Sort estate.

Besalú Lakes Ride (6 days) 120 km - 4 riding days with 4-6 hours each in the saddle
Vilafreser - Banyoles - Besalú - Vilafreser.
This short but beautiful riding tour leads over plains, through forests and near the largest lake of the region. You will ride in the regions of Plà de lEstany, Garrotxa and Alt Empordà, always at a moderate gallop, and stay overnight in the pretty towns of Besalu and Banyoles.

Day 1: In the evening you will arrive at your first accommodation - a country estate called Can Grau, located in the heart of the Empordá. In the middle of fields and forests, horses are kept here in a manner appropriate to their species. Before dinner you will discuss with your host the riding program and the horse arrangement.

Day 2: After breakfast you leave the estate on horseback and ride through Mediterranean forests. You will ride over mountain paths and in trot over meadows and fields. Cross the river Terri over the Romanesque bridge and reach the walled villages of Ravós and Palol de Reverdit, where the picnic awaits you. You will pass rural estates and old churches surrounded by olive groves and cornfields. In Banyoles you will spend the night in a comfortable sports hotel near the lake.

Day 3: Besalú is a medieval fortified town between two rivers. It is a wonderful place with beautiful squares and terraces where you can linger and taste tapas. The town offers a very special atmosphere with its small streets, the many stone columns and vaulted arches and last but not least with its spectacular Romanesque bridge. You will ride across fields, always with beautiful views of Lake Banyoles, before climbing up the adjacent mountain range. You will enjoy the picnic today at a bend in the Ser River. In Besalú you will stay overnight in the beautiful hotel Los Jardines de la Martana.

Day 4: From Besalú you ride on to Masia la Palma, where you will spend the night. First you will take a path that leads down to Alt Empordá. Although this is a prosperous and progressive area, the traditional rural lifestyle is maintained. The small roads and paths are unpaved, which opens up an almost endless network of bridle paths. Again and again you will pass pretty villages, old castles, churches, archways and tunnels. Today you will have a picnic lunch in the shade of a big tree, with a beautiful view of the Fluvia River. After you have reached your accommodation today, you can book a massage or use the spa area (not included).

Day 5: Today you can expect another beautiful ride, which is however a little shorter than on the days before. Over meadows and narrow paths you will reach Ollers, a small village in the middle of nature. The picnic will be enjoyed near the hermitage of San Baldiri. Finally you return to the Can Grau estate. Here you can give your horses a shower and release them into the wide paddocks. After a warm farewell you will be taken to the airport.
