Lakes, caves, folkore and paradisiac mountains of the Rhodopes (8 days)
The mythical Rhodopes mountain will let you be absorbed in the enchanting world of Orpheus, where you will discover the harsh and majestic beauty of nature. You will go back in time to the Bulgarian roots. In this adventure you will be accompanied by the ancestors' sacred animals - horses. In authentic villages nestling churches and mosques you will feel the spirit of Bulgarian tradition, customs and culture. You will become part of this cosmopolitan world trying to reveal the secrets of the mystical Rhodopes mountain.
Day 1: Arrival in Sofia and transfer to Trigrad in the South of Bulgaria to the family riding centre. After the check-in you will meet your guides and get to know the horses. In case of an arrival before 03 pm there is a chance to visit the Devil's Throat Cave, the highest subterranean waterfall from Bulgaria.
Day 2: After breakfast you mount your horse and head to the village of Bujnovo. Here in the Rhodopes you can see the ancient Bulgaria from his best side. You will enjoy beautiful mountains and little villages. In noon you will have lunch with sandwiches. The day has short riding itinerary for getting used to the horses and the saddles. In the afternoon you arrive the village Bujnovo and you accomodation. Here you visit the Yogodinska cave (cave pearls) on of the most beautiful flowstone caves in Buldgaria. Dinner on the terrace of the hotel. Riding time around 4 hours.
Day 3: After the breakfast you will enjoy a beautiful ride through the virgin forests. The picnic is taken at a very romantic place in an old wooden hut near the Roman Bridge. After the break you ride along the 19 km lake of Dospat. If you want you can enjoy the unique adventure and swim with the horses. You let the horses rest at the lake and go on a lovely boat trip at the sunset. Your hotel will sleep on the picturesque coast of the dam and enjoy a freshly caught fish for a dinner. Riding time around 6-7 hours.
Day 4: Today you start the ride along the lake. Then you enter the deep woods. In the noon you enjoy the leisure time and lunch in a wooden summer-house. There you get a Barbecue around the fire served. In the afternoon you will ride on to Dikchan Natural Reserve where you can expect to meet some wild animals.
A unique experience attends you, a live polyphonic singing "Aloud" in Dolen and Satovcha villages. After this day full of emotions you will relax at the fireplace in the Dikchan hunting hut. Overnight in a hunting hut. Riding time around 4-5 hours.
Day 5: Along the way one could see the panoramic view of the lake and Sarnitsa town. In the noon you arrice your accomodation, a small family hotel on the coast of the dam (3km to the town of Sarnitsa), where you enjoy lunch in the hotel restaurant. After the break you have the great possibility to go swimming with the horses. Then you visit the town of Sarnitsa and the small ethno-center. In the evening you will get to know the traditional bulgarian Folklore with the Male Ensemble who will play Rhodope Live Music. Overnight in hotel. Riding time around 4 hours.
Day 6: After the breakfast you go over amountain road which is winding high into the mountains. It will take you to the dam with highest altitude - the Shiroka Polyana Dam. You relax with lunch at the waterside of a lake.
Today your accommodation is in a mountain chalet, rustic but cozy. Dinner under the arbour of the hut, accompanied by the horses. Riding time around 7-8 hours.
Day 7: At your last day you can enjoy the beautiful landscape. On this route, over the boundless Yagodinsky meadows above the Trigrad Gorge near the village of Trigrad, you have wonderful possibilities for long trots and galopps. Enjoy the lunch at the ''Mill over the Trigrad river'' tavern-restaurant, which offers a beautiful view to
the gorge. In the afternoon you will arrive at the riding centre and the little hotel. You can relax during a common dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.
Day 8: Breakfast and transfer to Sofia. If your departure flight is after 05pm on the way to Sofia you will visit the Bachkovo Monastery - the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria. It is rising like an impressive Medieval caste in the picturesque valley of the Chaya River surrounded by high rocky and wooded mountains.
