The 7-day comfort trail offers great trotting and galloping routes through vineyards, past herds of cattle, along Portuguese quintas and through rolling cork oak forests to the mares and foals of the famous Veiga stud farm and on to Golegã, the ‘horse capital’. Ride on excellently trained Lusitanos and discover the unspoilt landscape of Portugal as well as the culture and hospitality of the Portuguese people. Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup at the Lisbon airport (approx. 1-hour drive). You’ll receive a warm welcome from the owners at the Quinta. In the afternoon, you’ll go on your first trial ride to get acquainted with the horses. Start exploring Portugal’s beautiful countryside today, with its magnificent pine and cork oak forests. In the evening, relax and enjoy a dinner together. You’ll eat in the Quinta’s garden or at the long table. Overnight stay at the Quinta or in a guesthouse (5 minutes from the Quinta—depending on group size and availability). Riding time: approx. 1.5 hours.

Day 2: After breakfast together, your trail ride begins toward Golega, the Portuguese horse capital. You’ll ride through the countryside over rolling hills. In the shade of the dense cork oak trees, you’ll be served a sumptuous picnic. In the afternoon, you’ll continue your ride through the charming Ribatejo countryside. Storks and grazing bulls share the vast meadows in peaceful harmony. In the evening, you’ll arrive at the tranquil Quinta do Mato Miranda, where you’ll spend the next night. Riding time: approx. 5.5 hours.

Day 3: A highlight of your trip is a visit to Golega, the horse capital! In the morning, you’ll ride through the biodiverse Paul do Boquilobo Nature Park and enjoy long, relaxed gallops. Around noon, you’ll reach the streets of Golega, where the Lusitano is revered. Riding through the town’s historic alleys is always a very special experience. After a short lunch break, you’ll still have time to explore the town on foot. You can visit one of the traditional equestrian shops or buy a souvenir to take home. Riding time: approx. 3 hours.

Day 4: You’ll continue your journey through the Tagus River delta with long, gentle gallops. Today’s destination: the famous Lusitano stud farm, Coudelaria Veiga! Upon arrival, you’ll be served a generous picnic by the pool. You’ll enjoy an exclusive tour of the stud farm’s inner workings. Here, tradition is alive and well! In the evening, you’ll dine at a traditional local restaurant in Golega. Riding time: approx. 3 hours.

Day 5: The morning gets off to a very leisurely start today. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll saddle up your horses and follow your trail to the next quinta. You’ll ride through traditional villages, past grazing cattle, and finally stop for lunch by the river. In the late afternoon, you’ll reach Quinta da Boa Vista, which truly lives up to its name. Not only can you enjoy a wonderful view of the valley here, but you’ll also learn interesting insider stories from your hostess, Madalena. She is known for her expertise in carriage driving. Before dinner, you can enjoy some relaxing time by the pool. Riding time: approx. 4.5 hours.

Day 6: Before setting out on your final day of riding, Madalena will give you a guided tour of her picturesque stud farm. She’ll introduce you to the art of carriage driving and show you an impressive collection of carriages. On the way back to your home base at the Quinta, you’ll ride through dense cork oak forests and on to Quinta da Ribeirinha. At the traditional winery, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch break. If you’d like, you can take home a bottle or two of regional wine as a souvenir. In the evening, once the horses have been tended to, you’ll have time to reflect on this impressive journey by the pool. Riding time: approx. 4.5 hours.

Day 7: After breakfast, transfer to the airport and departure.

Accomodation
During the tour, you will stay at the Quinta or at ed country estates in double rooms or, on request, in a single room (at an additional cost). The Quinta is beautifully situated in the countryside with simple and clean rooms. The stables are also very close to the rooms. The grounds include an outdoor riding arena, an indoor riding hall and a swimming pool. A cosy dining room and lounge invite you to spend pleasant evenings.

Saddle & Tack: Portuguese saddles and tack.

Experience: Advanced riding skills: confident in all gaits and experienced in trail riding. Maximum weight 90 kg. Children aged 12 and over with sufficient riding experience are welcome on the trail, but only when accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also riding.

Horses: At to stand you will find well-trained, very well-trained, enduring and sure-footed Lusitano horses. They are easy to ride and are regularly trained. Maximum rider weight: 90kg.
