In the villages of the Serra d'Arga, there is a treasure for visitors who love horseback riding. Here in the mountains of northern Portugal, life moves at a slower pace. The locals have largely preserved the old architecture, the traditional rural way of life, and the area’s unique natural landscapes. Here, you’ll travel far away from the usual tourist crowds! This trail reveals the secrets of the community around the Serra d'Arga. You’ll stay in small Tiny Houses that have been carefully integrated into the natural surroundings and in addition to the horseback riding tour, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains. On horseback, you’ll ride along exciting mountain trails and to hidden villages. Swing into the saddle and learn more about life in the Serra d’Arga.
Itinerary
1. Day: Arrival at Porto Airport at 14:00 pm and transfer to the hotel (Driving time approx. 1 hour). After a welcome drink, you’ll get to know the horses you’ll be riding.
2. Day: After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll ride to Senhora do Minho, one of the highest points of the Serra d’Arga. From here, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the terrain you’ll be riding through over the next few days. For lunch, you’ll stop in the picturesque village of St. Lourenco da Montaria. A transfer will take you back to your accommodation.
3. Day: After breakfast, a transfer will take you back to your horses. Today you’ll ride to the village of Argas, which is picturesquely situated on the summit. For a picnic lunch, you’ll be treated to local specialties in the mountains. Another highlight of the day will be the St. Joao d’Arga Monastery, hidden deep in the mountains. In the late afternoon, you’ll have plenty of time to relax in the pool or jacuzzi before dinner.
4. Day: Today you’ll ride to the Santa Rita Chapel. From here, you’ll have a spectacular view of the Lima Valley and the Serra d’Arga. This peaceful place is a popular destination for pilgrims and hikers.
5. Day: On the final day of riding, the highlight of your trip awaits you. You’ll visit Portugal’s oldest village, Ponte de Lima. What a feeling it is to ride through the historic streets of the old town on horseback! You’ll stay in the village for lunch. Afterward, you’ll visit the Bertiandos Lagoons Nature Reserve. A final dinner together back at your accommodation.
6. Day: Check out after breakfast and transfer back to Porto Airport.
