This 6-day ride takes you from the interior of the country to the Atlantic Ocean with magnificent gallops on the beach. 
Discover the unspoiled landscape of Portugal and the culture and hospitality of the Portuguese on this ride. Let yourself be carried through nature by fantastic, excellently trained Lusitano horses that respond to the finest of aids even when out exploring open countryside.

If you have ever dreamed of riding an excellently trained horse on a white beach and harmonizing the rhythm of the Atlantic Ocean with the rhythm of your heart and the hooves of your horse at a gallop, this ride is for you! 
This ride is more demanding than the one in The Land of the Lusitanos and consists of longer daily stages. The riding time is between 5-6.5 hours per day.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the airport by 13:30 and transfer. You will be welcomed warmly and will be assigned a suitable, top class and finely trained Lusitano mount, who you will already be able to try under saddle that afternoon. You will go on shorter ride of 1-2 hours to allow yourselves to become familiar with the horses. Dinner and overnight stay on the Quinta. 

Day 2: Today you start your ride from the stables in Santarem to Riberra de Sao Joao. You will spend several hours in comfortable saddles and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Portugal! The Lusitanos are soft to ride and absolutely sure-footed. Feel comfortable and let yourself be carried over hills and mountain landscapes, taking in the varied landscapes that unfold around you as you travel. Overnight on the Quinta or in carefully chosen country farms/b&bs on the way. 

Day 3: After breakfast we will continue from Ribeira de Sao Joa to Casaus da Serra. You will travel through beautiful and densely overgrown forests and enjoy the dreamlike, peaceful calm that surrounds you. Your Lusitanos, who are always hard-working and committed and enjoy their work, will carry you effortlessly through the day. In the afternoon you will ride through idyllic, typically Portuguese villages. Here you will discover and explore, bit by bit, the true, traditional Portugal with its unique untouched landscape. In the evening, you head back to the comforts of the Quinta, where we will stay overnight. There is the potential to go out for dinner to a typical Portuguese restaurant on the way home.

Day 4: Today's ride takes you from Casaus da Serra to Obidos. You will ride to enchanting, hidden places, usually only visited by locals. The horses will love a good leg stretch through endless fields of flowers, and you will enjoy tales told by your guide of this beautiful country.

Day 5: On your last day you will ride from Obidos to the Silver Coast and reach the Atlantic Ocean. Breathtaking views will greet you. The smell of the fresh sea air will accompany you as you gallop along the soft sandy beach for a truely unforgettable experience.

Day 6: Departure after breakfast. Flights home from Lisbon should be booked after 14.00hrs (by arrangement, slightly earlier flights are also possible).

The programme is subject to change (at the discretion of the guide, e.g. due to weather conditions or the riding ability of the group). 

Accomodation
During your holiday, you will predominantly stay in the Quinta will occasional nights spent in traditional Portuguese country houses. Rooms are typically double rooms, a single room can be arranged on request and at extra charge. The Quinta is beautifully situated in its idyllic surroundings with simple and clean rooms. The stables are only a stone's throw away. There are indoor and outdoor riding arenas and a pool. The dining room and lounge invite you to spend cosy evenings amongst newly made friends.

Saddle & Tack: Portugese saddles and bridles

Experience: You should be comfortable in all gaites, be happy to ride out of the arena on the trail and have had 5 years of regular riding at least. You will be riding for 1-2 hours on the first day, and for 5-6 hours on subsequent days. Maximum weight is 90kg. Children 12 years and older, with sufficient riding experience, are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent who will also join us on the ride.

Horses: Well trained, enduring and sure-footed Lusitano horses are at your disposal. They are easy to ride and training is kept up to date. Maximum rider weight: 90kg.

Andalusier 
Andalusier gehören zu den edelsten Pferderassen der Welt und ziehen mit ihrer enormen Ausstrahlung, ihrer Anmut und ihrem Temperament jeden Betrachter in ihren Bann. Sie sind besonnen und widerstandsfähig, ergeben und lernfähig.

Für unsere Reitprogramme eignen sich eher "Andalusier", die mit anderen Rassen gekreuzt werden, so findet sich zumeist der "Hispano-Anglo-Araber". Die in dieser Zucht mit verwendete "P.R.E" Reine Spanische Rasse hingegen eignet sich neben dem berittenen Stierkampf, vor allem aber für die Dressurarbeit, wegen ihres großen Talents in der Ausbildung zur Hohen Schule. Ihr Name leitet sich von der Provinz im Süden Spaniens ab. Der mittellange bis kurze Körper ist muskulös und harmonisch, Mähne und Schweif üppig und lang. Das Gesicht ist gerade oder leicht konvex, etwas schmal und trocken, mit kleinen Ohren und wachen Augen. Die Pferden bestechen durch ihre energischen, jedoch geschmeidigen Gänge und beachtliche Erhabenheit. Es dominieren Schimmel und Braune, zulässig sind noch andere Farben, mit Ausnahme von Füchsen und Schecken.
Spanische Pferde wurden wegen ihrer Qualität und Erscheinung bereits seit dem Mittelalter geschätzt. Mauren drangen im 7. Jh. auf die Iberische Halbinsel vor und brachten ihre Pferde mit, die mit guten einheimischen Rassen gekreuzt wurden. Um 1500 übten Andalusier einen großen Einfluss auf die Lipizzanerzucht aus. Auf den Eroberungszügen des Spaniers Hernán Cortés gelangten sie selbst bis nach Amerika. Die Kartäuser Mönche züchteten die Andalusier und bewahrten die Reinheit der Rasse. Neben Pferdediebstählen durch die Truppen Napoleons und einer Epidemie dezimierte sich der Bestand merklich, jedoch überlebte eine kleine Herde im Kloster der Kartäuser.
