Combine a great holiday with your family, as a couple or even as a solo traveller in a comfortable 4* hotel near Westport with wonderful beach rides and a wealth of activities around the hotel.

You can go hiking and climb Croagh Patrick, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over Clew Bay. There are plenty of beaches in the Westport area, such as Berthra in Murrisk and Old Head in Louisbourgh.
Several Irish pubs also invite you to enjoy a convivial atmosphere – you should definitely try a pint in the most famous pub, Matt Molloys.

Itinerary

The rides can be booked flexibly. This means you can stay for a shorter period and tailor several of these rides to suit the length of your stay, or ride them in a different order.

Day 1: Arrival

Day 2: Brackloon & Owenwee Moor
You start your first ride after a hearty breakfast and explore the area on old, small paths called boreens in Gaelic. Through forest paths, moorland and shallow river banks, you will have plenty of opportunities to ride at a faster pace. The carved and stacked peat blocks that you will see repeatedly next to the moors are particularly typical of the region. These are stored and used for heating in winter.

Day 3: Bertra Island & Murrisk Beach
You will be picked up at the hotel and taken to Murrisk, where the horses will be waiting for you. You will saddle up and ride to the beach, where you can gallop along miles of sandbanks. At low tide, you will ride across to Bertra Island, past oyster beds, and explore the largely untouched island. You will end the day in typical Irish fashion in a pub at the foot of Croagh Patrick.

Day 4: Croagh Patrick and the Skulp
Today you will go on a longer day trip to the surrounding area of Croagh Patrick. In the mountainous terrain, you can rely on the sure-footedness and balance of your Irish horses. You will climb The Skelp, a hidden hill from which you have a great view of Clew Bay and the countless small islands near the coast. This ride offers plenty of opportunities to trot and gallop.

Day 5: Rest day
Today you have time to explore the beautiful, typical coastal town on your own. Enjoy a Guinness in the pub and soak up the Irish atmosphere. If you wish, another ride can be organised.

Day 6: St. Patrick's Chair
This day ride offers plenty of culture and the slower pace is also suitable for advanced beginners. First, you will reach Bohea Stone, from where you can watch the sun roll down the shoulder of Croagh Patrick twice a year. The stone is also known as St. Patrick's Chair and dates back to the Bronze Age.

Day 7: Silver Strand Beach
Today's ride takes you along one of the most beautiful beaches in the west of Ireland. Away from the tourist crowds, you can let your soul and your horse run free. Along the way, you will discover a shipwreck from the Spanish Armada, graves from the time of the last famine that forced many Irish people to emigrate, and much more.

Day 8: Departure

Subject to change.Additional activities: There are several bike rental shops in the surrounding area. There are also several popular golf courses nearby, including one where Joe Biden has played. Finally, you can enjoy all kinds of water sports on the beaches of Westport: swimming, surfing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, etc.

Accomodation
The 4* hotel is located not far from the small town Westport. It offers something for every guest with a wealth of activities and has a restaurant, a leisure center, a spa area and a pool. The hotel is situated in a wooded area, some of which is 300 years old, and has a total of 122 rooms. The hotel is perfectly located for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way area, Co Mayo and the Connemara region.
