Explore Mexico's highlands on extended half-day and day rides. The wrangler will take you to some of the most impressive volcanoes near the Ajusco Natural Park and to old villages where you can have a cold drink and chat with the locals. You will enjoy breathtaking views from the highest points of Ajusco - all on a well-trained horse. You to ride over narrow paths and steep hill, mixed with open fields and fast gallops. The day tours to Chalma or Tepoztlán last from early in the morning until late at night and require a lot of stamina.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
The drivers will be waiting for you at the airport to take you directly to Ranch , where you will be welcomed with a margarita. If your flight lands early, you will have the opportunity to get to know the horses and perhaps even to to ride. For dinner, you can choose from the chef's many specialties. Overnight stay at Ranch.
Day 2: The surroundings of Ajusco
On your first day of riding on the Ranch , you will ride through the hill around the Ranch, from where you can see the small town Ajusco. This ride is the perfect opportunity to get to know your horse better. After a delicious lunch at Ranch, the guides will take you to the crater of the nearest volcano "El Arenal". During this evening ride, you will have an unobstructed view of the huge Mexicotown at sunset. Enjoy the evening on the Ranch in a convivial atmosphere. Riding time approx. 3-4 hours.
Day 3: Cerro Pelado volcano ("Naked mountain")
After a delicious and hearty breakfast, you go on a horseback ride to Cerro Pelado, a volcano that you can see on the horizon from Ranch . From the highest point of this inactive volcano, you can see the whole of Ajusco and the surrounding wilderness. Rangers watch over nature here in case of forest fires. You will be back at Ranch in time for lunch - in the evening you can go shopping and sightseeing in the center of Ajusco or you can do a little more riding before dinner. Riding time approx. 5 hours.
Day 4: Hidden village El Capulín and wild horses
Now that you've gotten a feel for the horses and done some shorter rides, you should be ready for a whole day in the saddle! You to ride to a hidden village called Capulín where you have the opportunity to try a locally prepared drink called "Conejo" or maybe just an ice cold "Cerveza". This beautiful village has about 300 inhabitants and the nearest town is about 2 hours away by car. If you are lucky, you may see a herd of wild horses on your way! Riding time approx. 5 hours.
Day 5: Historical volcano "Xitle"
The Xitle volcano, which engulfed and covered several pre-Hispanic settlements, including the famous Cuicuilco pyramid in the south of Mexico-town, is another interesting destination for a horseback ride from Ranch . The volcano doesn't seem particularly large from the outside, but if you climb up to the rim, you can see the huge, 300-meter-deep crater. The ride from the Ranch to this crater takes about 2 hours and the path to the top is so narrow that you leave the horses behind and walk about 10 minutes to the rim backward to see the impressive volcano. On the way back to Ranch you can take a break in one of the many "tiendas" to have a few cold drinks and support the local community. Riding time approx. 4-5 hours.
Day 6: La Marquesa
After a few days of climbing, today's ride takes us to a beautiful park called "La Marquesa". On this ride you will have the chance to see more wild horses if you are lucky and enjoy the fast changing landscape of the wilderness: open fields, dense forests, small streams and old wooden villages. On arrival at La Marquesa, there is a perfect spot for a short canter to an open space where you will have a barbecue and ice-cold drinks. After a leisurely evening of eating and resting, you will load the horses and take them back to Ranch . Riding time approx. 7 hours.
Day 7: Los Dinamos waterfalls or Chalma
On this last day of riding you will visit a special place called Los Dinamosn. This is another national park known for its beautiful scenery with waterfalls, streams and one of the few rivers that supply Mexico-town water . At the end of the trail, cold drinks, quesadillas and other local snacks and dishes await us. The rest of the evening and night is yours to enjoy all the amenities and good food on the Ranch .
Alternatively, if you fancy a very intense trail, you have the option of joining us on a 12-hour ride to a place called Chalma, which is known to pilgrims throughout Mexico. This ride is only suitable for advanced and experienced rider riders as it is very long; it's almost like a marathon on a horse! But don't worry, the horses are in very good condition. On the way to Chalma you will see everything from open landscapes to mountains! Lunch is taken in a small town called Santa Marta, and when you arrive in Chalma you can visit the famous church of this small town and buy local handicrafts and typical sweets.
If you would prefer to go to Chalma instead of Los Dinamos to ride , please let us know in advance.
Riding approx. 6 or 12 hours.
Day 8: Transfer according to your departure time.
