Here you can be a cowboy! Hidden away in the relatively unknown Canadian province of Saskatchewan, you will find everything a cowboy's heart desires. Ride through magnificent, endless expanses, try your hand at lassoing, enjoy a saddle bag picnic like a real cowboy and end the day around the campfire under the starry sky or in the saloon.

The family-run working ranch is tucked away in the gently rolling prairie landscape of the beautiful Saskatchewan River Valley on the shores of Lake Diefenbaker. The landscape is reminiscent of an old-fashioned Western and is wonderfully varied – sometimes gently rolling, then wide open, with canyons, river landscapes and even sandy beaches on Lake Diekenbaker. The ranch's huge property includes 9 miles of riverbank! Depending on the season, nature changes its face – from the intense purple of crocus blossoms in spring to pink in summer when the cacti bloom, to golden autumn.

Itinerary

Riding programme:
Cowboy life takes place largely in the saddle. So, after a delicious and hearty breakfast, it's time to saddle up. Once everyone has found their favourite horse, riders can look forward to an exciting day on horseback, which includes herding and rounding up cattle. From time to time, calves need to be caught and fences repaired.
All guests are invited to help with the cattle and ranch work. There is plenty to do every day, with a hearty picnic lunch and a nap in the sun to recharge your batteries.
Less experienced riders can take their first Western riding lessons in the riding arena, but can usually venture out into the countryside soon after. Everyone has the opportunity to practise using a lasso, work with the cattle and try their hand at their first barrel race.
In summer, the horses are sometimes saddled up for a two-day ride with an overnight stay in the open air.
Rides in the beautiful surroundings without cattle work are possible at any time, except during branding and round-up week.

Special events:

Season opening
Season opening week: Guests can learn about the cowboys' spring work every day while the calves are still coming to life. Join us on our daily rides to the pastures to check on the herd and, if necessary, care for newborn calves or tag them. The fences need to be checked and repaired. The cattle pens at headquarters need to be prepared and set up for the upcoming branding.

Branding & Round Up:
At the end of May/beginning of June, the calves are branded. This is a very popular and exciting time. The cattle must be rounded up, which means a long day in the saddle, but also lots of fun and action. The next day is branding day, and every helping hand is needed. If you want to take part in this event, you should be a confident rider.
Round Up Week: In the first half of October, the cattle are rounded up on horseback and brought from the summer pastures to the ranch. The animals are counted, vaccinated and distributed to different pastures. This is a great time for anyone who enjoys riding and wants to learn how to handle cattle from horseback. Here you can be a cowboy or cowgirl for a day!Other ranch activities:
When you're not in the saddle, there are plenty of other things to do. In summer, Lake Diefenbaker is ideal for swimming, boating, canoeing and even water skiing. Fishing is also possible. The extensive grounds invite you to explore and observe numerous wild animals such as deer, coyotes, foxes and owls, while a golden eagle or a few pelicans fly overhead. Or find a quiet spot on the more than 200 km of sandy beach.
In the evening, we do what cowboys do. We compete in horseshoe throwing, lasso throwing and archery, or head straight to the saloon to play pool, table football or darts. Of course, you can also simply enjoy the evening with country music, in the hot tub under the stars, listening to the crackling campfire and cowboy songs. Sometimes we also drive to the nearest town for a beer at the famous White Bear Saloon.
Rodeo: No ranch holiday would be complete without a visit to a real rodeo. There are rodeos in the vicinity of the ranch almost every weekend. The ranch offers an accompanied transfer to such a rodeo competition (admission and meals not included). Usually on Saturdays, from 1 June to 15 December, exact dates on request.
There is also an 18-hole golf course nearby, as well as mini golf.

Accomodation
Guests stay in wooden cabins furnished in the original western style. There are a total of six wooden cabins and two larger wooden cabins with enough space for up to six people. All other cabins have one bedroom and their own bathroom. Everyone comes together for dinner in the main house. Guests from all over the world and the Ranch family mingle here and many new friendships have already been made.
