Unser Tipp
A great program to discover Namibia from saddle , also ideal as a short break of 5 days in combination with a Namibia round trip.
Beschreibung & Reiseverlauf
For around 60 years, the more than 100-year-old farm north of Windhoek has been open to guests from all over the world, who can discover the beautiful nature with many wild animals in the highlands on horseback, on foot and by jeep. The diversity of species ranges from oryx antelopes to kudus, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, leopards, hippos, ostriches, vultures and a myriad of other bird species. The landscape is characterized by sandy plains. From January to April (rainy season) the landscape turns green. Beginners and advanced riders are welcome, from a leisurely walk to a brisk safari ride with long gallops. There are also activities for non-riders and for the non-riding season.
To make themselves less dependent on the weather (drought) and to relieve the pressure on the soil, owners are increasingly turning to sustainable game tourism. Today, only a few cattle are kept. The wild animals have thus recaptured the countryside and additional species that had been displaced by cattle farming over the last 150 years have been reintroduced. Guests enjoy many encounters with animals as well as the excellent game from local hunts, which is freshly prepared in the kitchen.
Reiseverlauf
The riding program is based on riding ability, and the individual supervision means that both beginners and advanced riders get their money's worth. Children can also lead ponies or, depending on their experience, take part in safari rides with or without a hand horse. Advanced riders rider can look forward to a gallop through the riverbed or an exciting ride through the mountains, which demands a certain amount of surefootedness from the horses.
On the riding safaris, you will be accompanied by an experienced guide who will be happy to answer your questions about the animal flora and fauna. On the rides to ride you will be in a small group of a maximum of 5 people.
The safari rides take place in the mornings and afternoons/evenings, sometimes starting as early as 7am to make the best time for game viewing. The duration of the rides is between 1 and 2.5 hours.
Beginners: 5 days include approx. 4 riding days (6 hours at saddle) and 2 jeep safaris. For 8 days, 10.5 hours are included in saddle , including a breakfast ride and a sundowner ride, as well as 3 additional jeep safaris.
Advanced: For 5 days, 10 hours are included in saddle spread over 4 riding days, as well as 2 jeep safaris. If you stay 8 days, the package includes 17.5 hours at saddle, including a sundowner ride and a breakfast ride. Also included are 3 jeep safaris.
For beginners and advanced riders, an overnight stay in a chalet with campfire in the wilderness is also included for those who want the real "Africa feeling" (with a minimum stay of 8 days).
Example of your riding week for advanced riders in Namibia:
Day 1: Arrival and pick-up from the airport. After a short break, first meeting with the horses and the guides to discuss the course of the next few days. A first ride is possible in the afternoon. In the evening a delicious dinner with all guests. Occasionally local game is on the menu (e.g. antelope).
Day 2: Before breakfast, you meet at 7.00 a.m. at stable with the saddled horses and then set off on a ride to track down wild animals, as they are particularly active at this time of day. After 1 - 2 hours of riding you will be back in time for breakfast. Afterwards you can relax by the pool. In the afternoon, you will go on a game drive into the highlands, where you are sure to spot some antelopes, giraffes and zebras. Afterwards, everyone gathers again for dinner.
Day 3: After breakfast, you will go on a longer ride (approx. 2.5 hours) through the sandy plains, which invite you to take long, beautiful gallops and along narrow paths through the mountains. At dusk, you will go on another game drive, where you may be lucky enough to spot one of the leopards, which are quite numerous here.
Day 4: Today is dedicated entirely to riding: in the morning you can either go for a short ride around the farm or take a riding lesson (show jumping/cross country/dressage). In the late afternoon, you will go for a sundowner ride to a very beautiful spot with a view. A sundowner table with snacks and a drink of your choice awaits you here. After the sun has set, head to Lodge for dinner (duration: approx. 2.5 hours).
Day 5: You to ride early in the morning to a lake with hippos. A laid breakfast table awaits you on a wooden platform at lake with a view of the hippos. The hippos are particularly easy and safe to watch from the platform. When they are fed, they all come out of the water onto the bank and frolic in the grass. After breakfast, you return to the farmhouse on horseback. (Duration: approx. 3 hours). In the afternoon, you can relax by the pool before setting off on the third game drive into the highlands and to various waterholes.
Day 6: Morning at leisure (activities not included): How about a bushwalk with birdwatching, for example? Namibia has a diverse birdlife, it is not easy to distinguish between the numerous songs... At the end of your trip, you go on an overnight ride in the afternoon. After about 2 hours you will reach a simple chalet in the wilderness where you will spend the night. After looking after the horses, a campfire with sundowner awaits you. Your hosts will then serve you a typical Namibian barbecue. Enjoy the good food and the bush experience under the wide canopy of stars.
Day 7: The next morning, you return to the farmhouse at a leisurely pace before breakfast. At dawn, some wild animals are sure to cross your path again. Once you arrive at the farm, a hearty breakfast awaits you. Afterwards, you can relax by the pool and in the afternoon head back to saddle to rear for a riding lesson or a ride, where you can once again conquer the sandy slopes at a gallop.
Day 8: Breakfast and departure. If you don't fly back until the evening, you can book another to ride or an additional safari.
Non-riders: Overnight stay including half board is included. In addition, one activity per day is already included, either a jeep safari, bush walk or bird watching. Further activities can be booked on site.
