Reiseverlauf

Day 1: Madrid - Trujillo
Collective transfer from Madrid airport to Trujillo at around 15:00. After your arrival you will have the opportunity for a short tour of the city. Trujillo, a Spanish city in the province of Cáceres, is famous for its monuments. For example, there is a horse statue in Plaza Mayor Francisco Pizarros, since he and his brother, the conquerors of Peru, were born here. Francisco de Orellana, who was the first to descend the Amazon, was also born here. However, the impressive castle (an old Arab fortress from the 9th century) and the beautiful 13th century church of Santa María are the most important monuments. But not only the Pizarros and Orellana, but also other inhabitants of Trujillo sailed to America at that time to discover new areas. When they returned, they built majestic palaces near the Plaza Mayor, most of which can be visited today.
The tour is followed by a welcome dinner where you will learn more about the upcoming ride and the region.

Day 2: Trujillo - Aldeacentenera
After the horse assignment you will ride through the famous dehesa, Mediterranean forest pastures that still strongly resemble those of thousands of years ago. The dehesa is a man-made ecosystem of agricultural and livestock character (so-called field forest), in which geological, cultural, landscape and other resources interact with each other and which is probably the most vivid example of the compatibility between traditional forms of production and sustainability. These wooded pastures have been maintained in a very good condition for thousands of years and play an important role as a supplier of food, but also as a habitat for endangered animal species such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish imperial eagle. Many different bird species can also be found in the dehesa.
Your lunch, an excellent paella, will be taken after the aperitif in the middle of the greenery - when you arrive at the rest area, busy helpers will have already set the table for you. After a short afternoon ride, you will finally arrive in Aldeacentenera, where you will have dinner and accommodation in a small, charming hotel. Riding time: about 6 hours.

Day 3: Aldeacentenera - Berzocana
On your morning riding stage you can expect beautiful impressions of the best preserved Mediterranean forest. The dominant tree species here are holm and cork oaks. After an aperitif with refreshing cold drinks and small snacks you will be spoiled again today with an excellent lunch in the middle of the beautiful landscape. In the afternoon you will cross the impressive mountains of Villuercas. Dinner and overnight stay will take place in a rural hotel. Riding time: about 6 hours.

Day 4: Berzocana - Logrosan
In the morning you can let your eyes wander over the impressive landscape of Villuercas and just enjoy! Today, as on other days, you can also observe vultures, eagles, azure blue shimmering blue starfish, red-beaked alpine crows or red-backed shrikes. Villuercas was declared Geopark by UNESCO in 2011 because of its cultural and natural heritage and the great geological importance of its unique relief, which has a lot of interesting and recognizable geological elements. The so-called Appalachian relief consists of several parallel valleys and mountains which together form this impressive relief - you will be thrilled! After an aperitif and lunch in nature, you will ride in fast and fantastic gallops to Logrosan in the afternoon, where you will stay in a nice rural hotel. Riding time about 6 hours.

Day 5: Logrosan - Zorita
After breakfast, you will be led through the dehesa by magnificent trots and gallops - cattle can be seen almost everywhere. The keeping of cows, sheep, goats and Iberian pigs will probably remind you of times gone by. In the afternoon we will drive in fast and refreshing gallops to your next small hotel. Riding time approx. 6 hours.

Day 6: Zorita - Trujillo
Today you will once again enjoy wonderful and long trots and gallops through the unique Dehesa Extremeña to return to Trujillo, the starting point of your ride. You will spend the night in the same country hotel where you stayed the first evening. At the farewell dinner you will probably think back wistfully to the beautiful ride - not seldomly the guests are already playing with the thought of participating soon in the other Extremadura rides! Riding time about 6 hours.

Day 7: Trujillo - Madrid
After breakfast at the hotel, you will leave for Madrid at around 10 a.m., arriving there at around 12:30 p.m. - the return flight is thus possible from 2:30 p.m. at the earliest.

(subject to changes.)

Food
Excellent Mediterranean dishes will accompany you through Extremadura, with vegetarian food prepared on request. The meal times are Spanish: breakfast at around 9:00, aperitif with ham, cheese, olives and cold drinks etc. at around 12:00, a (mostly cooked) lunch in the countryside with table and chairs at around 14:00 and dinner (usually at the hotel) at around 21:00.

Non-rider
This riding tour through Extremadura is also suitable for non-riders: they can ride in the support vehicle and thus take part in the lunch, dinner and any activities that may be organised. However, we recommend that non-riders rent a car so that they can go sightseeing or do other activities on their own and join the riding group for dinner.
