Fast riding in the endless landscape and a charmy accomodation in a beautiful estate

Hungary is an equestrian nation. The original Magyar tribes arrived on horseback in the 10th Century, and since then horses have played an important role in Hungarian life. Riding on the Southern Great Plain is a very different experience to riding in most other countries. The flat landscape is criss-crossed with long sandy tracks which allow you to explore this rural idyll without gates to open or fences to hinder your progress!
You can trot and canter for several kilometers at a time; you will be surprised at how quickly your horse covers the distances. The pace is mixed. Generally the riding is at walk, trot or canter along sandy tracks which take you across arable farms, past lakes and through forests. When riding at speed, your guide will take you to wide areas of open land where you can spread out, take your own line and allow your horse to show you what he is made of!

Accomodation:
The Lodge is a Boutique Hotel located at the Homokhátsági Tanya-Birtok in Ruzsa and provides a 20 ha property with grazing lands and crops. All free standing charming buildings with thick adobe walls and thatched roofs used to be a typical farmstead and are surrounded with adjacent free-stall, vegetable cultivation, fruit Orchards and a nomadic animal husbandry. Major restoration works have been carried out to make it still look like a traditional "Tanya" of long gone days. This unique architecture is complemented with a tremendous attention to detail. Common rooms are found in all the buildings with different settings for relaxation, reading or as lounge areas. Terraces whether with or without roofs are great hideaways to find shadow during the day. Garden with furniture and romantic settings allow the soul to find its peace with nature.

Rooms:
Standard-rooms:
12-18m2, bed size(s) 1 double or twin, garden view, Minibar, safety deposit box, desk, reading light, chairs, heating, interconnecting room(s) available, wooden beams, stone floors, privacy curtains, window mashes, wardrobe/closet, slippers, bathroom, bath or shower, WC, hair dryer, free toiletries, magnifying mirror, bathrobe
Luxus-Cottage
: 90m2, kitchenette, covered terrace, garden 300m2, garden pavilion, pets allowed. WlAN in every room.

Catering:
Meals are prepared at the Dine restaurant. A former stable has been transformed into so called "Agricultural Guest Table" with a spacious dining area and lounge bar. All is traditionally furnished and provides space for dancing and musical evenings. Outside there is a huge terrace and cozy pavilions combined with a fantastic view onto the nomadic animal husbandry and the Puszta.
The dishes are traditionally rural; with use of regional products. Mangalica pigs, Racka sheep and the Hungarian steppe cattle are raised through nomadic animal husbandry and fruit and vegetables come from ecological agriculture. Some examples from the menu: Homemade sausages; cured hams, local cheeses and whatever fruit and vegetable is in season is a feature of many meals. Marinated meat called Bödönöshùs is one of the specialties. Cooking in the cauldron over an open fire, this is called Bogrács; the traditional fish soup Halaszlé is prepared in this way. Vegetarian and also gluten-free dishes are served on request. Fruit juices à la Maison and wines from the region complete the culinary pleasures.
The majority of ingredients are either grown at Homoki Lodge or produced locally by neighboring farmers.
Great care is taken to provide guests with delicious and authentic Hungarian meals.

The Riding programm:
The horses are fit and strong and you can expect a lot of fast riding on this holiday, so you should be an experienced and confident rider to get the most from this trip. You must also be sufficiently experienced to control a forward going horse at speed in open spaces. possible Itinerary:
The following is an outline itinerary for the Ride. Although you can arrive and depart any day, below is an example of what days could look like. Please note that this itinerary is merely a guideline and may change depending on local
weather conditions and the riding ability of your group, but always with your best interest in mind. Arrival Day:
Check in from 14:000 at the Lodge. If transfer is part of your travel arrangement, you will be met on arrival at Budapest Airport and then transferred by car to Ruzsa (payable locally). This one and a half to two hour trip will take you through the Hungarian Southern Great Plain. Near the end of your journey you leave tarmac roads and continue on sandy tracks to the secluded farmstead of Homoki Lodge. There you will be introduced to your guest room, the farm and the horses. In the evening, have a typical Hungarian meal (drinks not included). A typical day:
Usually rides go out right after breakfast for a few hours and radiate in different directions every day. Lunch will be prepared at base of Homoki Dine or at specific picked places where typical Hungarian food is served. (Drinks not included). Afternoon tea or coffee will be served whether before or after the afternoon rides depending on the season (included on package deals). Rides in the afternoon will last for about 1,5 - 2 hours. Dinner at different places on the property of the Lodge; Dine, Wine Cellar, BBQ or just out in the Garden under a tree (included on package deals) (Drinks not included). A traditional musical evening is usually held on a Wednesday, if there are a minimum of 3
guests attending. Day Ride To Fishing Lake:
A lovely day ride takes you through the differing Puszta landscape to a fishing lake, were a local fisherman is preparing the traditional Hungarian fish soup "Halaszlé". Relax at the stunning lakeside before heading back to the Lodge.

Day Ride to Farm Museum:
Another interesting tour leads you to a farm museum where you will find farm tools and utensils of the past. There, experience a typical lunch with lard bread, sweet paprika and seasonable vegetables. Ride back through the forest with the legendary "Rózsa Sándor Tree? which was used by bandits in the 19th Century to hide themselves from the authorities.

other activities:
other activities can be organised:
- carriage ride
- evening with Folklore
- hot springs
- visit Szeged
- Skydiving
- game drive in Jeep
- local markets and events.
- profesional pictures of riding

Travel time:

Spring and autumn are often considered as great riding months with long warm days.
Summers are hot and it can get too warm to ride comfortably during the middle of the day, (so in July especially, you will usually ride out in the early morning, return to the Lodge for lunch and ride out again later in the afternoon).
Autumn on the Puszta brings pleasant day-time temperatures, harvest time and the forests turn into pools of reds and golds as the autumn colors take hold. Again the wild game of the area is pretty present as crops are harvested and meadows are cut and free for some gallops and canters.
Winters are usually dry and cold. Around Christmas time you can usually expect snow which creates a magical landscape and beautiful wintry vistas.
