Unser Tipp

An unforgettable experience for good riders!

Beschreibung & Reiseverlauf

This typical ranch, located in the Dryhead Canyon on the eastern slopes of the Pryor Mountains, south of Billings, Montana, breeds quarter horses and cattle on the ranch´s approximately 16,000 acres. So it is by no means a pure tourist destination and golf courses and swimming pools you will search in vain! Enjoy Montana´s so-called "Big Sky Country", the dreamlike silence of nature and the breathtaking beauty of the landscape! Founded in 1898, the ranch is located right on the border between Wyoming and Montana, surrounded by rolling hills, forests, rivers and the majestic Pryor Mountains. You´ll feel like you´re on a journey back in time - the Bassett family, who have been running the ranch for over 50 years, look forward to sharing with you the lifestyle of a true working ranch!

Their hosts have been breeding Quarter Horses for most of their lives. They are driven from the pastures in Montana to Wyoming every fall and back again in spring. During these Horse Drives, you will be driving about 60-90 mares, foals and young horses in front of you, covering between 16 and 25 km in the saddle every day. You will ride through the Pryor Mountains, the Big Horn Mountains and the Big Horn Nature Reserve. You also follow the Old Bad Pass Canyon and the Sioux Trail. This old trail was created by members of this tribe. The riding days at Horse Drive are long and especially in autumn the weather in Montana can be changeable. There is a lot of walking and trotting, but be prepared for some brisk gallops! Every evening you will return to the Pryor Mountains Ranch where you will stay in guest houses. Breakfast and dinner are taken at the ranch, with lunch picnic lunch en route. All in all, such a Horse Drive is an unforgettable experience for good riders, and one that you too will rave about for a long time to come!

Reiseverlauf

Guests will assist the cowboys with any activities that may arise. Lunch is brought to where the herd is at lunchtime. Dinner is served at the ranch.

Day 3: Breakfast and drive to the Corrals at Hough Creek. Again you will assist the cowboys in their work with the horses, enjoy a picnic lunch in the open and dinner at the ranch.

Day 4: Breakfast and drive to Hough Creek Corral. If everything goes according to plan, you will reach the ranch in the late afternoon. Horses need to be fed and watered, and the saddles need to be stored in the stable for the night. Lunch picnic in the open and dinner at the ranch.

Day 5: After breakfast, the horses are taken to the new pastures. Individual horses at the ranch must be checked and treated if necessary. Again, the cowboys will assist you as much as possible in all activities. Lunch will take place where you will be travelling at lunchtime. Dinner will be served at the ranch.

Day 6: Breakfast at the ranch. The ranch covers approximately 33,000 hectares and horses must be herded and sorted together to complete the tasks for the first week of the season. Our partner has about 150 horses that you will take care of during this week. Lunch either at the ranch or on the road again, depending on where you are at lunchtime. During a final dinner together you will review events of the week.

Day 7: After a last leisurely breakfast, you will leave the ranch, be back in Billings by noon and be taken to your hotel.

Day 8: After your last night at the hotel you will return to the airport.

During the round-up weeks you will work with the horses on the ranch grounds. The animals must be herded together, sorted and checked.
